The first obstacles of early life

For many animals, early life is the most difficult stage. The immune system and intestinal physiology are not yet fully developed – which makes young animals more susceptible to disease. At the same time, young animals need to develop and grow optimally. Feed changes are a burden, often resulting in reduced intake and increased disease susceptibility. To survive these stressful stages and prevent disease, young animals need a highly available source of protein for good growth and development, as well as functional feed ingredients for a healthy gut microbiota.

Focusing on hydrolyzed yeast

Hydrolyzed yeasts are currently gaining attention as a “functional protein source” for feeding young animals. They provide a highly digestible protein and a source of amino acids, nucleic acids and immunomodulatory yeast cell wall components – thus a “functional” protein source.

Yeast is extracted by hydrolysis, a gentle process in which all nutrients are released and high digestibility is more easily obtained. The yeast cells are released into yeast cell wall components (30%) and yeast extract (70%). Hydrolyzed yeast products contain two components of the yeast cell wall – mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) and beta-glucan – and components of yeast extract: highly digestible proteins, essential and functional amino acids such as fresh glutamic acid, nucleic acid acids as a source of nucleotides, vitamins and minerals. The beneficial effects of nucleotides include faster intestinal recovery, for example after diarrhea, and faster immune response in different disease situations. The digestibility of hydrolyzed yeast is comparable to that of animal protein sources. Hiyeast©Yeast Hydrolysate is a hydrolyzed yeast based on the Saccharomyces cerevisiae fragilis strain. It contains 50% crude protein and is particularly rich in essential and functional amino acids.

Improved taste, intake and development

Derived from certain components of functional amino acids and nucleic acids, the fresh taste improves the palatability of the feed and provides good feed intake. Highly digestible protein and nucleic acids support healthy growth. Recent studies on weaned piglets fed  Hiyeast©Yeast Hydrolysate have shown a significant increase in average daily feed intake and weight gain.

MOS reduces the pathogenic pressure of gram-negative pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella. by forming complexes with these pathogens. These complexes are then excreted through the feces, significantly reducing the potential risk of disease.

Hiyeast©Yeast Hydrolysate effectively stimulates feed intake. It is a high quality, easily digestible protein source with a high protein content and prebiotic effect to support the healthy growth of young animals.
